Ship's papers, ca. 1827-1907

1827 · 7 pictures

A collection of nineteenth-century American ship's papers — billheads, towing receipts and pilotage accounts from Boston, Philadelphia and New Bedford firms, kept as trade records for schooners and barks between 1827 and 1907. The sheets pair small engraved vignettes of side-wheel tugs and steamers with mixed job-printing type, ruled money columns and ink script, useful for letterhead layouts, maritime spot engravings and period commercial lettering.
