A short historical sketch of the art of bookbinding
A short illustrated essay on the history of bookbinding by New York collector and bibliophile William Loring Andrews, with binder William Matthews, printed in a small edition in New York in 1895 for fellow book collectors. The scanned plates run to repeated Smithsonian Libraries sunburst stamps, accession marks and ink-blotted endpapers alongside reproductions of decorated bindings, useful for stamp roundels, border repeats and tooled-leather ornament.
