A short history of the British school of painting
A survey of English painters and their work by George H. Shepherd, published in London by Sampson Low, Marston, Searle, and Rivington in 1881 for general readers and art students. The illustrations here are printer's ornaments in line: an owl perched inside a scrolled cartouche and a tailpiece of paired birds among acanthus, usable as chapter headers, dividers, and stipple-shaded frames.
