Side-lights on astronomy and kindred fields of popular science; essays and addresses
A collection of popular essays and addresses on astronomy and related sciences by the American astronomer Simon Newcomb, published by Harper in New York in 1906 for general readers. The plates are line engravings of instruments and optics: a gridded circular lens or mirror disc, the same blank drawn in low perspective, and hatched sectional views of a telescope tube and pier, all usable as neutral technical line art, cross-hatch texture, and circular grid motifs.
