A pocket guidebook to Boston and its suburbs by David Pulsifer, published in 1856 by John P. Jewett & Co. for visitors seeking public buildings, churches, railway stations, cemeteries and harbor sights, with wood engravings by John Andrew, Hammatt Billings and George W. Hill. The 115 plates are small street-level architectural views: granite and brick facades with arched windows and cornices, shopfront awnings and gas lamps, pedestrians and carriages in the foreground, and tree-shaded mansions rendered in fine parallel-line engraving.
