The simple home
Charles Keeler's 1904 Arts and Crafts tract, issued by Paul Elder in San Francisco and addressed to Bay Area householders building modest shingled houses in the Berkeley hills. Halftone plates show wood-shingled cottages with deep eaves and trellised porches, vine-covered facades, garden paths and the Japanese tea garden at Golden Gate Park, useful as period reference for domestic architecture, planted exteriors and soft-grained photographic tone.
