Hieroglyphica, sive, De sacris Aegyptiorvm aliarvmqve gentivm literis commentarij
A Latin encyclopedia of emblems and symbol lore compiled by Pierio Valeriano, enlarged by Celio Curione and printed by Thomas Guarinus at Basel in 1567 for humanist readers of Egyptian hieroglyphs and classical allegory. Small square woodcuts set single figures, animals and birds in bare hilly landscapes with distant towers, alongside historiated initials of fauns; useful for isolated animal emblems, line-hatched terrain and decorative letters.
