Six lectures on architecture
Six lectures on architecture collects Scammon lecture texts by Ralph Adams Cram, Thomas Hastings and Claude Bragdon, published in 1917 by the University of Chicago Press for the Art Institute of Chicago and aimed at students and general lecture audiences. The plates are coarse-screen halftone photographs of medieval and Renaissance European buildings—Vézelay's carved west doors, blind arcading with foliate capitals, a cathedral seen across open ground—useful for Gothic ornament detail, deep-shadow stonework texture, and grainy architectural silhouettes.
