Sketches of great painters for young people
An 1902 American school reader by Colonna Murray Dallin, published by Silver, Burdett and Company for young readers learning the lives of European painters. The fifty plates are halftone reproductions of Renaissance and later paintings, heavy in tone and softly grained, including the Sistine Madonna, Dürer's apostles, Holbein donor groups and artist self-portraits, useful for grey-scale figure studies, framed devotional compositions and period portrait heads.
