Sketches of printers and printing in colonial New York
Charles R. Hildeburn's history of printers and printing in colonial New York, printed by the De Vinne Press for Dodd, Mead in 1895 and aimed at bibliophiles and book-trade historians. Engraved head-and-shoulders portraits of eighteenth-century printers in dense crosshatching sit alongside relief-cut trade devices and arms with supporters, barrels and a windmill cross — usable as stipple portrait stock and printers' emblems.
