John Tyndall's course of Royal Institution lectures on acoustics, issued for general readers by Appleton in New York in 1897 and illustrated throughout with apparatus figures. The 104 wood engravings show tuning forks on resonance boxes, singing flames on burner stands, bellows and membrane devices, and vibrating strings, drawn in fine parallel hatching with italic letter keys and generous white space around each object.
