Special cubics and quartics produced by projective pencils of straight lines and conics
A 1916 mathematics thesis by Robert Haskell Marshall at the University of Illinois, constructing cubic and quartic curves from projective pencils of lines and conics. The plates are hand-drawn line diagrams in black ink on tinted paper: looping curves crossing labelled axes, nested circles, radiating tangent lines, and handwritten equations set in the margins.
