A type specimen book issued in 1877 by the New York printing house Francis Hart & Co. to show printers and publishers the ornamental letters and display faces held in its office. The plates are pen-drawn initial capitals in blackletter and Gothic forms, wrapped in scrolling vines, acanthus leaves, roses and hatched shading, usable as drop caps, monogram bases or border fragments.
