The Spencer Collection of modern book bindings
An exhibition catalogue of modern French bookbindings from the New York Public Library's Spencer Collection, compiled by Wilberforce Eames, Chester March Cate and Henry Watson Kent and printed in New York in 1914 for collectors, librarians and binders. The plates are photographs of full leather covers shot straight on: gilt-tooled diaper grounds, strapwork and scrollwork panels, carved acanthus and grape foliage, and repeating anthemion borders, all usable as frames, corner ornaments and all-over pattern fills.
