The spirit of peace
A short 1912 commemorative volume of verse by Fred Emerson Brooks on peace and the Peace Monument at Berkeley, printed in Sacramento by the Press of J. Anderson. Soft pencil vignettes signed "McC" show a spiderweb-draped rifle, a cannon abandoned in tall grass, a stooped figure in a greatcoat, and stacked arms under cloud banks, useful as loose tonal spot drawings with open backgrounds.
