Spirit slate writing and kindred phenomena
An 1898 exposé and how-to manual of spirit slate-writing tricks, written by the American conjuror William E. Robinson under the name Chung Ling Soo and published by Munn & Company in New York for magicians, mediums' critics and curious readers. The plates are plain pen-and-ink line engravings of framed slates, hinged flaps, pin-and-slot catches and trick pedestal tables, with disembodied cuffed hands demonstrating each grip and lettered labels like LOCKED and OPEN; useful for hand gestures, ruled hatching textures and diagrammatic cutaways of small mechanisms.
