Spirit slate writing and kindred phenomena
An 1898 exposé of séance slate-writing methods, written by the magician William Ellsworth Robinson under the name Chung Ling Soo and published in New York by Munn & Co. for conjurers and skeptics of spiritualism. Pen-and-ink line drawings show hinged slates and their hidden flaps, hands knotting and slipping cord, and a frock-coated performer with concealed apparatus strapped under his sleeve; useful as diagrammatic hand studies, mechanical cutaways, and period figures caught mid-gesture.
