Splendors of the sky
A popular astronomy book by Isabel Martin Lewis, a computer at the U.S. Naval Observatory, published by Duffield in New York in 1919 for general readers following the night sky. The plates are halftones of observatory photographs — the Orion nebula, a half-lit Moon, the Andromeda spiral, an eclipse corona — offering white forms scattered on dense black for high-contrast cutouts and starfield textures.
