A Dutch collection of political and moral fables in emblem form, written by Jan van Hoogstraten after Pieter de la Court's Sinrijke fabulen, with plates by Jacob Gole, printed in Rotterdam by Arnold Willis in 1731 for adult readers of instructive literature. The 132 small horizontal etchings set foxes, wolves, lions, hens and peasant hunters in open country, built from fine parallel hatching that leaves skies pale and distant hills flat, giving designers compact numbered vignettes, animal silhouettes and empty landscape backgrounds easy to isolate.
