Staat- en zedekundige zinneprenten, of, Leerzame fabelen : die van den Heere La Court speelswyze
A Dutch emblem and fable book of 1731, published by Arnold Willis in Rotterdam, in which Jan van Hoogstraten reworked Pieter de la Court's Sinrijke fabulen in verse for adult readers seeking political and moral instruction, with plates engraved by Jacob Gole. The 132 small oblong engravings set foxes, wolves, dogs, birds of prey and peasants in open country under ruled skies, giving designers compact animal vignettes, dense hatched foliage and distant church spires and towns.
