Starboard and port: the "Nettie" along shore
An 1876 Harper & Brothers travel narrative by George H. Hepworth, recounting a coastal cruise aboard the yacht "Nettie" along shore and into Canada for American general readers. The wood engravings are small ink sketches of shore characters and crew — a bearded man in a broad straw hat, a lanky youth in a knit cap and boots, a figure hauling himself over a bulkhead, a grinning man holding a board — built from loose hatching with plenty of open paper, useful as spot figures and vignette cutouts.
