A statement of the condition and circumstances of the Cathedral Church of Hereford
A dean's 1842 report on the structural state of Hereford Cathedral, written by John Merewether and published in Hereford and London to inform subscribers and the public about needed repairs after the west front's collapse. The plates are engraved interior views of Norman arcades, ribbed vaults, cylindrical piers and blocked doorways, drawn in fine line and stipple with small standing figures for scale, useful for masonry texture, arch profiles and deep architectural perspective.
