Stichtelyke zinnebeelden gepast op deugden en ondeugden : in LVII tafereeelen vertoont
A Dutch emblem book of 1723, published in Amsterdam by Willem Barents, with fifty-seven moral plates engraved after Arnold Houbraken and verses by Gezine Brit for pious lay readers. Each plate sets a small etched scene — a robed figure pointing skyward, travellers in wooded country, a beggar at a wall, ruins and church towers on the horizon — inside a ruled circle whose square surround is filled with wavy hatching, giving designers ready-made roundel frames, compact landscape vignettes and figure groups.
