Stick-and-pea plays; pastimes for the children's year
A children's craft and games manual by Charles Stuart Pratt, published in Boston by Lothrop in 1899, showing parents and teachers how to build models from toothpicks and softened dried peas. The line engravings are skeletal wireframe constructions — tables, chairs, sailboats, pyramids — drawn as thin white rods joined at lumpy round nodes, useful as diagram-like armatures, lattice motifs and structural vocabulary.
