The stones of Venice
John Ruskin's study of Venetian Gothic architecture, issued in 1886 by George Allen at Orpington, Kent, for British readers and students of art and building. The plates are numbered technical diagrams — cornice and base mouldings in profile, shaded section silhouettes, and grids of capital and pier plans — giving designers clean curve profiles, repeatable ogee and roll shapes, and flat grey-on-cream figure arrangements.
