John Ruskin's architectural history and criticism of Venetian building, issued in this illustrated edition by Estes & Lauriat of Boston in 1894 for English-speaking readers of art and architecture. The wood-engraved figures isolate window groups, arches, capitals and mouldings against hatched stone walls, giving designers small high-contrast line studies of Gothic and Byzantine detail usable as ornament or diagram.
