Giampietro Zanotti's two-volume history of Bologna's Accademia Clementina, printed by Lelio dalla Volpe in 1739 for the academy's members, patrons and the wider Italian art world. Engraved plates give oval bust portraits of painters and sculptors set in sculpted frames \u2014 allegorical figures clasping hands above a plinth, or cartouche surrounds with putti, scrollwork, fruit swags and ribbons \u2014 usable as ready-made portrait medallions and frame ornament.
