Storia della pittura italiana esposta coi monumenti
Giovanni Rosini's history of Italian painting, issued at Pisa by Niccolò Capurro in 1848 and illustrated throughout with engraved copies of early Italian panels and frescoes for scholars, collectors and students of art history. The plates are pure outline engravings: enthroned Madonnas, haloed saints and Annunciation scenes set in gothic arcades, with haloes, tiled floors and drapery folds reduced to even contour lines and small Latin inscriptions—ready-made line art for tracing, filling or recolouring.
