Storied windows : a traveller's introduction to the study of old church glass, from the twelfth century to the Renaissance, especially in France
A traveller's handbook to medieval and Renaissance church glass, written by Arthur J. de Havilland Bushnell and published by Macmillan in New York in 1914 for tourists and amateur students visiting French cathedrals. The plates are monochrome photographs of stained-glass windows, printed dark so that lancets, tracery, canopies and figure panels read as high-contrast silhouettes against black—useful as ready-made stencil shapes, grid layouts of narrative medallions, and Gothic window outlines.
