Storied windows; a traveller's introduction to the study of old church glass, from the twelfth century to the renaissance, especially in France
A traveller's handbook to medieval and Renaissance church glass, written by Arthur J. de Havilland Bushnell and published in Edinburgh in 1914 for tourists studying French cathedrals. The plates are halftone photographs of windows, mostly high-contrast silhouettes where lancets, tracery and medallion grids read as black-and-white pattern, with legible figures of saints, donors and narrative scenes.
