The Story of Bothwell Castle, Tillietudlem, Crookston, and Other Castles

Shelley, Henry Charles · 1900 · Glasgow : W. Collins, (19--) · 7 pictures

A short popular history of Scottish castles and ruins by Henry Charles Shelley, issued in Glasgow by W. Collins around 1900 for general readers and visitors to the Clyde valley. Its pen-and-ink line drawings show ruined keeps, gatehouses, abbeys and church towers set among trees and open fields, built from open hatching and dense scribbled shading with small figures for scale, giving designers ready-made architectural silhouettes and textured landscape backgrounds.
