The story of the sun, moon, and stars
A popular astronomy primer by Agnes Giberne, issued in 1898 by the National Book Company in Cincinnati for young and general readers. The plates mix dense black stipple skies — the earth as a globe over a cratered lunar rim, a star-filled void above a hatched cross-section of ground — with an oval-framed wood-engraved portrait of Copernicus, offering designers reversed white-on-black celestial textures and ready-made line shading.
