The story of textiles; a bird's-eye view of the history of the beginning and the growth of the industry by which mankind is clothed

Walton, Perry, 1865-1941 · 1912 · Boston, Mass., J. S. Lawrence · 60 pictures

Perry Walton's popular history of textile manufacture, published in Boston in 1912 for general readers and people in the trade, tracing spinning and weaving from hand work to power machinery. The plates mix halftone photographs of mill interiors and a handloom weaver's room with stipple-engraved portraits of inventors, giving designers period workshop scenes, loom and spinning-wheel structure, and framed portrait formats with engraved captions.
