The Stowe catalogue, priced and annotated:
An 1848 London auction record by Henry Rumsey Forster, publishing the priced and annotated sale catalogue of the art and furnishings at Stowe House, dispersed by the bankrupt second Duke of Buckingham and Chandos, aimed at collectors, dealers and antiquarian readers. Line engravings and lithographs isolate single objects against blank ground \u2014 Renaissance-style ewers with grotesque handles, carved tankards, ornate mirror frames, miniature portraits, plate and porcelain \u2014 giving designers clean-outline silverware and frame ornament usable as spot art or borders.
