Sergei Makovsky's collected essays on Russian painting and art, issued in St Petersburg by Panteon in 1909 for a readership following contemporary exhibitions and criticism. The plates here are black-line printer's ornaments — paired heraldic birds, a beast in a circular medallion, an urn spilling acanthus and tulips, symmetrical sprays with perched birds — usable as chapter heads, tailpieces and small emblem stamps.
