Studies of trees in pencil and in water colors
A drawing manual by J. Needham in Vere Foster's instructional series, published by Blackie & Son in London and Glasgow in 1895 for students learning to render trees in pencil and watercolour. The plates show trunks, forked limbs and foliage masses in graded graphite hatching alongside loose green and russet washes, giving designers isolated tree silhouettes, bark texture studies and leaf-clump shorthand on blank grounds.
