Studio international
An illustrated art periodical begun in London in 1893 and issued for artists, craftworkers and collectors, reproducing contemporary painting, drawing, design and applied art alongside critical notices. The plates are mostly soft halftone reproductions of tonal paintings — figures under heavy trees, lychgates, moonlit water, boats — plus line and wood-engraved landscapes with radiating skies, useful for muted atmospheric backgrounds, silhouetted foliage masses and period magazine page layouts.
