A study of the sky
An introductory astronomy textbook written by Herbert A. Howe, director of the Chamberlin Observatory, and published in Meadville, Pennsylvania, in 1896 for general readers and home-study students. The plates are coarse halftones of star fields, nebulae, planetary disks and lunar craters, printed as pale specks on grainy black grounds, useful as ready-made star textures, circular telescope-view vignettes and soft-edged glowing forms.
