An attempt to discriminate the styles of architecture in England : from the Conquest to the Reformation : with a sketch of the Grecian and Roman orders : notices of numerous British edifices :and some remarks on the architecture of a part of France
Thomas Rickman's handbook of English medieval architecture, first issued in 1817 and here in the 1848 London edition from J. H. Parker, engraved after Frederick Mackenzie and John Henry Le Keux for architects, students and antiquaries classifying Norman and Gothic work by period. The 349 plates are line engravings of windows, arcades, capitals, mouldings, doorways and plans, drawn in fine parallel hatching with stonework joints and leaded glazing indicated, useful as tracery outlines, ornament motifs and measured architectural silhouettes.
