The submarine in war and peace; its developments and its possibilities
Simon Lake, the American submarine designer, wrote this 1918 account of submarine development and postwar uses for J.B. Lippincott in Philadelphia and London, addressed to general readers during the First World War. The plates are cutaway side elevations and sectional drawings of submarine hulls with labelled interior machinery, wheeled undersea craft on the sea floor, and grainy halftone photographs of boats afloat — useful for technical cross-sections, captioned diagrams, and silhouettes of early submersibles.
