A summer in Touraine
A 1909 Methuen travel account of the Loire valley by the English writer George Frederic William Lees, written for British readers touring Touraine's châteaux. The plates are soft halftone photographs of castle and manor facades seen across lawns, moats and avenues of trees, useful for grainy monochrome architectural backdrops, silhouetted roof and chimney profiles, and mirrored water reflections.
