Sun dials and roses of yesterday; garden delights which are here displayed in every truth and are moreover regarded as emblems
A survey of garden sundials and old roses written by American antiquarian Alice Morse Earle and published by Macmillan in New York and London in 1902 for garden enthusiasts and collectors. Halftone photographs record dial plates, carved stone pedestals, heraldic shields and cube dials in overgrown gardens, with some engraved gnomon faces shown flat, useful for dial numerals, stone ornament and period garden settings.
