Essai sur l'architecture
Marc-Antoine Laugier's architectural treatise, printed in Paris by Duchesne in 1755 and argued from the primitive hut for architects and educated readers of the French Enlightenment. The index holds its printer's ornaments: small letterpress woodcuts of symmetrical acanthus scrollwork framing footed urns and flower baskets, usable as tailpieces, section breaks, and centered spot ornaments at small sizes.
