A Latin alchemical treatise by the physician Michael Maier, printed at Frankfurt in 1617 by Antonius Hummius for the publisher Lucas Jennis, addressed to learned readers of chymical philosophy across twelve nations. The pictures in the index are the volume's letterpress furniture: white-on-black woodcut initials filled with scrolling foliage and hatched grounds, plus triangular flower-and-leaf tailpieces, useful as drop caps, section breaks and small ornament stock.
