Symbola diuina & humana pontificum, imperatorum, regum
A Latin emblem book compiled by Jacob Typot and printed at Prague in 1601, engraved by Aegidius Sadeler after drawings by Ottavio Strada, cataloguing the personal devices of popes, emperors and kings for court readers and heralds. Each page carries a circular device — sun with a human face, eagle amid lightning bolts, vine on a staff, hands holding a cornucopia — ringed by a Latin motto in spaced capitals, giving designers ready-made roundel badges, monogram-style symbols and lettering set on a curve.
