Symbola heroica m. Clavdii Paradini, Belliiocensis canonici, et d. Gabrielis Symeonis : multo, quàm antea, fidelius de gallica lingua in latinam conuersa

Paradin, Claude, 16th cent, Simeoni, Gabriele, 1509-1575, Gubernator, Joannes · 1600 · [Antwerp] : Ex officina Plantiniana, apud Christophorvm Raphelengivm ... · 210 pictures

A Latin edition of Claude Paradin's and Gabriele Simeoni's collections of heroic devices, translated from the French and printed at Antwerp by the Plantin office in 1600 for scholars, heralds and courtiers. The 211 small woodcuts set single objects against blank ground — swords, flaming torches, arms issuing from clouds, infants, mottoed banderoles that loop and knot around a shaft — giving compact emblem motifs, ribbon-lettering devices and isolated symbolic props.
