Symbolic education : a commentary on Froebel's "Mother play,"
Susan E. Blow's commentary on Froebel's "Mother Play," published in New York by D. Appleton in 1894 for kindergarten teachers and training students. The scanned plates are small wood-engraved vignettes of American historical subjects rather than classroom matter: a tricorne-hatted colonial head, a gambrel-roofed stone meeting house with outside stairs, a bespectacled modern portrait, and a leaning log palisade, all dense hatching on cream.
