The synthetic dyestuffs and the intermediate products from which they are derived

Cain, John Cannell, 1871-1921, Thorpe, Jocelyn Field, 1872- · 1920 · London : C. Griffin · 40 pictures

A technical handbook on synthetic dyestuffs and their intermediates, written by chemists John Cannell Cain and Jocelyn Field Thorpe and published in London by Charles Griffin in 1920 for industrial chemists, colour works staff and students. The plates are letterpress structural formulas: plain hexagonal rings strung into chains, labelled with substituent groups, linked by reaction arrows and boxed off with dotted rules marking the atoms lost in condensation, giving designers a stock of geometric line diagrams and typeset chemical notation.
