Tales of enchantment from Spain
A 1920 collection of Spanish folk tales retold by Elsie Spicer Eells for American children, published in New York by Harcourt, Brace with illustrations by Maud and Miska Petersham. The pictures shown are heavy black decorated initials, each letter paired with a line-drawn motif — a castle on waves, a crowned profile, a curly-fleeced sheep, roses and towers — usable as drop caps or small emblems.
