The tapestries of the Vienna imperial court
A 1922 Krystallverlag folio by Hermann Schmitz and Edmund Wilhelm Braun cataloguing the Habsburg tapestry collection in Vienna's Kunsthistorisches Museum, made for curators, collectors and textile historians. Photographic plates show Flemish and French hangings whole: crowded biblical and mythological scenes inside dense fruit-and-flower borders, grotesque pilasters, inscribed cartouches and heraldry, usable as frames, pattern fields and figure groups.
